Product Description
Mario Kart: Super Circuit brings the classic high-speed hijinks of Mario and friends roar onto the Game Boy Advance! Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad and Bowser put the pedal to the go-kart metal in 20 all-new tracks, plus additional hidden tracks and classic multiplayer Battle Mode. Grab coins to max out your speed and blast your rivals with the ever-popular arsenal of red, green and spiked Koopa shells. Bwa ha ha! Players can hop into the role of any racer.

Adshare.com Review
Nintendo's winning streak of rehashing and enhancing classic Super Nintendo games for the tiny GBA screen continues with this surprisingly addictive arcade racer. For those new to the Mario Kart game series, Nintendo mascots (Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, etc.) race go-carts along fantastic tracks that feature various offensive and defensive power-ups (banana peels and mushroom boosts, to name two). Accumulate enough points and you'll win circuit trophies.

Each mascot has a ride that handles and accelerates differently, yet the controls for each racer feel very tight and precise. The highly detailed, cartoony locales of Mario Kart Super Circuit show visuals that are both very sharp and fluidly animated. Though not nearly as fast, Mario Kart Super Circuit looks better and can be more intense than the vaunted F-Zero launch title.

If you perform well enough and collect enough coins in a tournament, you can unlock a plethora of bonus tracks--some of which are from older console Mario Kart titles. The fun multiplayer options include head-to-head racing and a balloon battle mode, in which you blast other racers with power-ups in a huge arena until there's only one driver left. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Bright graphics that are both fast and fluid
  • Multiplayer battle mode is loads of fun
  • Many, many tracks!
Cons:
  • May be too cute for some

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad, and Bowser put the pedal to the go-kart metal in 20 all-new tracks, plus many hidden courses. Each track has its unique challenges, ranging from crabs skittering across Shy Guy Beach to the piranha plants lurking in the quicksand of Yoshi Desert. Grab coins to max out your speed and blast your rivals with the ever-popular arsenal of red, green, and spiked Koopa shells. You'll earn points with every high-place finish, and you'll win trophies with the completion of every four-race cup. Doing well will earn you a high rating and unlock more tracks. You can compete against as many as four friends (Game Boy Advance Game Link cables required). The game features multiple scrolling planes that move in perspective as you zip through high-speed turns.

Customer Reviews for  'Mario Kart: Super Circuit'

Great fun with some flaws.
I don't need to say what's fun about Mario Kart, but I'll just get to the problem. Coins are tied to your car and if you lose all of them you lose control. And your opponet has no coins. Minor problem, still get it.

Multiplayer is a near impossible option, but still a very good game
Mario Kart: Super Circuit is a blend of concepts from the SNES Mario Kart and the N64 Mario Kart, all squished onto a tiny GBA cart. For its time, its graphics were impressive, and they still look pretty good thanks to bright colors and consistent art design.

The music is catchy, the sound effects add some personality, and the overall presentation is very slick.

The gameplay feels more like the SNES Mario Kart but with some refinement. Coins still litter the tracks, which adds a metagame to the proceedings. In order to achieve high rankings in cups, players need to collect lots of coins, use items effectively, AND get good times.

The items are just as useful as they ever were, taking a page from Mario Kart 64 as far as their execution is concerned: items can be be held onto, thrown forward and backward, etc. The items are essentially a copy of everything from Mario Kart 64, and that's all that was needed here. The controls can feel a bit cramped after long periods of play due to the mandatory use of both shoulder buttons and heavy use of the D pad while the A button is held down the majority of the time. If you've played Mario Kart DS, the button layout will be practically the same on your DS. The physics, as with each Mario Kart, have their own feel this time, and are more reminiscent of the SNES title.

Lastly, and most importantly, the track design is superb. Not only are all of the SNES tracks unlockable, there's a full set of brand new ones, and many of them are some of the most clever in the whole series. The new tracks look great and play excellently, with plenty of curves and turns and obstacles, each one feeling unique, for the most part.

Mario Kart: Super Circuit main flaw is that multiplayer is relatively bust. You'll need AT LEAST multiple GBA and link cables, (can't do it on the DS) plus you'll want multiple copies of the game for the full experience. Players can't do Battle Mode against CPUs, either, which is a disappointment. That said, this title is still quite fun even with just its single player stuff, and is n my opinion one of the best GBA games out there and one of the top Mario Kart games. Give it a go if only to experience the sweet tracks and revisit old ones.

Music Grates your nerves
I love every aspect of this game, but there is no option to turn OFF
the Background Music. This is a major complaint I have about all
games. If you want to hear the sound effects only, you aint getting it
here.

One of the best on GBA
This, together with Mario Tennis Power Tour, is my favorite game on the GBA. And of the 2, this is probably the better one. Unlike MTPT it doesn't have the annoying RPG with all the endless conversation you have to endure. Mario Kart is all about fun and racing without prententious storytelling.

The visuals are beautiful and original. There's a lot of tracks to race, and to uncover more in a later stage. It's an easy to pick up, though it gets a lot more difficult later on. 3 difficulty settings (or CC), a total of about 45 tracks and 8 different performance ratings (from E until 3 stars) should keep you busy for a while.

One of the best games on any system.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? MARIO KART ROCKS! 8.5 OUT OF 10
Mario Kart is still hands down one of the best racing games ever made, and this Game Boy Advance version doesn't say otherwise. The graphics are still nicely detailed for a handheld game to the point of where it looks like a console game. The racing tracks are still awesome as they were in past iterations, the weapons are still excellent, the classic characters are still a lot of fun to play, and basically everything is still good. Unfortunately, it doesn't feel as good as my SNES and N64 Mario Kart games, it's still a lot of fun, but it just isn't as good. Still, it's one of the best handheld racers ever made, and there's no reason you shouldn't like it unless you dislike fun in general.
